He also became a publicist at Detroit’s Fisher Theater during the non-summer seasons, contributing to major events like the premiere of Golden Boy starring Sammy Davis Jr. He recorded the entire final rehearsal of Fiddler on the Roof with John Detz, who later became a well-known radio disc jockey.

Rubin enrolled at Michigan State University for college, but his business never paused. While studying, he worked with advertising agencies, independent producers, and record labels. He held open auditions, signed local groups, and expanded Pioneer Recording into a place where artists, risk-takers, and visionaries found support.
